Separating the Men From the Bull
Monday, September 20, 8PM |
|
In this original, highly comic tour-de-force, performers Daniel
Jenkins (Broadway: Mary Poppins, Big, Big River) and Neal Lerner (last
season's comedy hit Social Security) expose the intricacies of male
friendships in seven inventive and insightful vignettes. This all out
comedy is a triumph of the imagination - a unique and authentic,
imaginative and smart, amusing, unpredictable, with a straight out of
life but with a comic book edge to it examination of the trials and
tribulations of being male.
"I laughed out loud and held my breath at tender moments in the mad,
mad, mad man world they have created. It's fragile and sweet, funny
and sad. It's so captivating and original, you couldn't make it up if
you tried; yet it rings true and got the audience roaring as well as
thinking." -Talkinbroadway.com

"Killadelphia"
One-man Mix Tape of a City
Written and Performed by Sean Christopher Lewis
Monday, October 4th, 8PM |
|
In the Summer of 2008, it was often said that Philadelphia had "more bodies than days." The city was in the midst of a murder epidemic that put it on par with some third world countries. Determined to take an unflinching look at the causes of the crime rate and its effect on the community, playwright Sean Christopher Lewis introduces us to the inmates of Graterford Prison - men employed to beautify the city even as they serve out life sentences. The voices of the prisoners, their victims, Mayor Nutter, local rappers, conservative talk show hosts, trauma surgeons, and the citizens of the City of Brotherly Love crowd the stage to say their piece. Played by Lewis, a performer described by the New York Press as "explicitly authentic", these voices combine with a shocking document of life in America's toughest town. The stunning result is Killadelphia: mixtape of a city.
Tickets are $20 general admission.

Beyond the Ouija Board
An Evening with Arlette Michaelis
Tuesday, October 5, 8PM |
|
On May 10, 1940, Arlette de Monceau's life was changed forever when the Nazis invaded Belgium. Faced with unknown adversity and strife, the 15-year-old Arlette made solving these difficulties a source of fun for herself and her younger siblings. Veiled in youthful invincibility, they harassed Germans on the streetcars, set fire to their raincoats, and published anti-Nazi propaganda. Her apartment was frequently used to hide Jews from the Nazis, and she later became a courier and aid to Father Bruno Reynders, a Belgian monk who has been credited with saving the lives of over 400 Jews. Thanks to the gracious support of PNC Arts Alive, de Monceau, now Arlette Michaelis, brings her singular story of determination and unwavering optimism to Cape May Stage for a FREE evening on October 5th. Audience members of all ages will relate to the stories of her defiant and heroic childhood, as Michaelis is somehow able to find humor and levity amongst the tears.
